Art Network Web Site!
AREUM Art Network (AREUM) is the starting point
for Korean Resident Artists living in Japan. i.e. Artists who
form part of the tens of thousands of Koreans who recently emigrated
from South Korea and about 600,000 other Koreans who emigrated
to Japan during the years between 1910-1945.
The reason for the migration was due to the invasion of Korea
and other Asian countries in the early 20th Century by Japan.
Since WWII the Korean residents living in Japan have lived with
worry about self-identity as a minority group. This has created
a large number of Korean artists here in Japan.
We know that in terms of art small, unique differences demonstrate
important values in the society for majority groups. Moreover
the society which develops these small unique differences and
retains them is an enhanced culture and society.
Now as the Korean migrant population has exceeded 7,000,000 it
has created its own culture in Japan and is considered a diversity
of Korean culture in Modern Times.
AREUM has an exhibition once every three years.
This Art Event includes an exhibition which displays all the works
of Artists who will form the Network. It is considered as being
the main motivation of each Artistfs expression to reconfirm the
differences and characteristics of his/her origin through these
exhibitions.
Now the network is not only accessible in Japan
for Korean Artists but also for those living in China, The U.S.,
Europe and their mother country.
Moreover if an Artist understands the principles
of AREUM, then we will work with the artist no matter what Nationality
the Artist is. The web site introduces the AREUM exhibition which
includes those works done by artists who work with us.
